Saint Christopher is the Catholic and Orthodox patron saint of travellers. According to one legend, the handsome Christopher asked God to disfigure him in order to ward off temptation. According to another, Christopher was born to a tribe of dog-headed men, and is often portrayed in Christian iconography as a man with the head of a dog.
